Catalogue details

Item type

Front-loading cargo bicycle

Description

Rafa’s blue cargo bicycle turns practical mobility into a running negotiation with weight, hills, weather and promises. Rafa owns the bicycle. Cargo ownership and custody vary by delivery and must be recorded separately.

Appearance

A weathered cobalt-blue two-wheel bicycle with a low wooden front cargo box, black saddle, mudguards, sturdy kickstand, rear reflector and an ochre delivery blanket. The front box sits between rider and front wheel.

Materials

Painted metal frame, timber cargo box, rubber tyres, steel fasteners and woven waterproof covering.

Origin

Bought secondhand by Rafa and repaired with help from Fogline. No branded model or certified load rating is claimed.

History

The box has one replacement panel fitted by Maya. Rafa keeps a small maintenance log because a skipped repair costs more than an afternoon off. Scuffs record ordinary use; they are not proof of a particular journey.

Capabilities

Moves bounded loads through the city under human power. A low box makes bulky objects possible and lets the rider watch a secured load. Straps and blankets protect cargo when used properly.

Limitations

Loads alter balance and braking. Hills, fatigue, weather, traffic and maintenance limit speed and range. It is not refrigerated, cannot carry every object safely and does not grant access to pedestrian-only or restricted areas.

Scene starters

  • A package fits the box but leaves no room for the promised return load.
  • A repair invoice exposes how much Rafa has been subsidising someone else’s urgent deliveries.

Continuity constraints

  • Rafa owns the bicycle. Cargo ownership and custody vary by delivery and must be recorded separately.

Adaptation notes

Useful for movement between scenes and concrete logistical choices. If changed to an electric bicycle, establish battery range and charging rather than inheriting unlimited mobility.

Sensory palette

Freewheel ticking, wet tyre hiss, a strap buckle striking timber and the weight shift when a load is lifted out.

Custody

Rafa owns the bicycle. Cargo ownership and custody vary by delivery and must be recorded separately.
