Summary logline
A fictional dawn walk tests what a short recording can reveal about place, memory and the limits of observation.
Description
Leila and Jonah walk a public Presidio path to collect a comparison soundscape. They record wind, birds and distant human activity while keeping notes about where and when they stopped. A possible coyote sighting invites a pause at a respectful distance. The walk may illuminate the earlier recording but cannot identify its origin by atmosphere alone.
Key moments
Agree a narrow question; check equipment; record ambient sound and notes; observe without approaching wildlife; compare what each person noticed; preserve uncertainty in the result.
Sensory details
Cool damp sleeves, dry leaves underfoot, microphone wind protection and a distant sound becoming clear between gusts.
Characters involved text
Leila Haddad and Jonah Price.
Factions involved text
Bay Ear Archive; no park agency endorsement.
Other locations text
No additional location is required; optional connections are in the package graph.
Items involved text
Bay Ear field recorder; tide-stained notebook.
Causes conditions
A limited question about a recording or an independent desire to document a morning soundscape.
Conditions during
Public access only; no handling, feeding or pursuit of wildlife. Weather and sightings are scene choices.
Prerequisite events text
The listening night may motivate the walk but is not required for reuse.
Subsequent events text
A revised catalogue note, follow-up research or an honest inconclusive result.
Immediate outcomes
A new recording and contextual notes exist; they do not automatically settle the earlier dispute.
Short term consequences
Leila and Jonah compare methods and may disagree about how confidently to describe the result.
Long term impact
The archive can learn to preserve qualified findings rather than force every investigation into a revelation.
Themes significance
Attention, uncertainty, stewardship, interpretation
General notes
WABF original fictional scenario. Relative days are an optional sequence, not dates of real events. Outcomes remain author-selectable.
Inspiration links
Created for the WABF San Francisco collection; no real incident adapted.
Writing with this entry
Scene starters
- The two observers remember different parts of the same minute.
- A hoped-for sound never occurs, and the absence tempts someone to overstate a conclusion.
Continuity constraints
- Public access only; no handling, feeding or pursuit of wildlife. Weather and sightings are scene choices.
- Do not present this scenario as a reported or scheduled San Francisco event.
Adaptation notes
Adopt independently or use the optional four-day sequence. Replace participants and stakes while preserving the causal question; define the outcome in the local manuscript.
Sensory palette
Cool damp sleeves, dry leaves underfoot, microphone wind protection and a distant sound becoming clear between gusts.
Canonical outcome
Intentionally open: this is a complete reusable scenario, not a completed historical event.
